Comments
The Sandero Stepway's passenger compartment remained stable in the front displacement test. Dummy measurements showed that the protection for the knees and thighs of the driver and front passenger was at least adequate. However, the structures on the dashboard posed a risk of injury to passengers of different sizes and sitting positions, and protection of this part of the body was reduced to a minimum. The chest protection for both front seat passengers was also classified as borderline based on the chest compression values measured on the dummy. The Sandero Stepway is quite small and light, and post-test analysis of the deformable barrier showed that it would be a harmless opponent in a crash. In the full-width rigid barrier test, protection for the driver in the front seat and the passenger in the back seat was at least adequate for all critical body parts. In the side barrier test, which represents the impact of another vehicle, chest compression indicates the limit protection level. In the side bar test, the protection of all critical body parts was rated good or sufficient. An investigation into ejection of passengers in a side impact showed poor protection and the Sandero Stepway does not have a countermeasure, such as a central airbag, for this type of accident. Tests of the front seats and headrests showed good protection against whiplash in a rear impact. However, a geometric analysis of the rear seats showed that the protection against whiplash is only minimal.

Detailed test results
Comments
In the frontal displacement test, the 10-year-old dummy's chest and neck protection were rated as poor based on the dummy's readings during the impact. In a 6-year-old doll, neck protection was marginal, while head and chest protection were fair or good. The passenger airbag can be deactivated to allow a rear-facing child seat to be used in this seating position. The driver receives clear information about the status of the airbag and is rewarded by the system. All child seats that the Sandero Stepway is designed for can be properly installed and positioned. One, a full-size rear-facing security system, could be fitted to the car with no problems, but was ruled defective because Dacia stated in the owner's manual that the car could not integrate this category (R3) security system.

The protection afforded by the bonnet to the head of an struck pedestrian was generally good or adequate, with poor results recorded at the lower edge of the windscreen and rigid windscreen pillars. The bumper provided good or adequate protection for pedestrians' legs at all test sites. However, pelvic protection was poor across most of the vehicle's width. Sander Stepway's Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) system does not detect vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists.

Comments
A seat belt warning system is standard for the front and rear seats. A driver-adjustable speed limiter is also standard, though the Sandero Stepway doesn't offer lane assist. The AEB system performed well in tests of its response to other vehicles, and in many cases was able to prevent or mitigate accidents.
